Common questions
How does holiday accrual work for a mid-year starter?
They build up holiday for the part of the leave year they’re employed. If the full allowance is 28 days and they start halfway through, they accrue roughly 14 days for that first year — usually rounded up to the nearest half day.
What’s a leave year?
The 12-month period your holiday allowance runs over — often 1 January to 31 December, or April to March. If nothing is agreed, it usually starts on the date the worker was taken on.
Does accrued holiday get rounded?
Statutory entitlement is rounded up in the worker’s favour, never down. This calculator rounds accrued leave up to the nearest half day.
