Term-time only holiday calculator
Estimate holiday for staff who only work during school terms — teaching assistants, catering, cleaning and admin. We use the 12.07% accrual method and show the answer in hours and in days.
Estimate using the 12.07% method — not legal advice. Permanent term-time employees may be entitled to the full 5.6 weeks (Harpur Trust). Check gov.uk/Acas.

Common questions
How is term-time-only holiday calculated?
For irregular-hours and part-year workers, holiday is commonly accrued at 12.07% of the hours actually worked (the 5.6 weeks’ leave as a share of the 46.4 working weeks in a year). This calculator uses that method and shows the result in hours and days.
Is 12.07% always correct for term-time staff?
Not always. Following the Harpur Trust v Brazel ruling, permanent employees on a year-round contract who only work term-time may be entitled to the full 5.6 weeks, not a 12.07% share. For leave years starting on or after 1 April 2024 the 12.07% accrual method applies to genuinely irregular-hours and part-year workers. Always check the contract and gov.uk/Acas.
Who counts as term-time only?
Typically school support staff — teaching assistants, catering, cleaning, admin and transport roles — who work during term and not during school holidays.
